Tran Vinh Tan

About me

In 2008, during the global financial crisis, Tan underwent a profound personal collapse, grappling with challenges in his career, relationships, health, and family life. This period of upheaval led him to discover mindfulness practices in the tradition of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh. Since then, he has devoted himself to studying, practicing, and teaching mindfulness, initially within this tradition and later broadening his approach by incorporating contemplative practices and scientific research from various fields, such as leadership, psychology, and neuroscience.Tan has worked extensively with leaders and organizations, integrating renowned programs such as Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Search Inside Yourself (SIY), Mindfulness-Based Strengths Practice (MBSP), and Theory U. He has also translated influential books on mindfulness and leadership by Jon Kabat-Zinn, Otto Scharmer, and Robert K. Greenleaf. Since 2008, he has supported individuals and prestigious organizations, including the United Nations, General Electric, Salesforce, Heineken, L’Oréal, and Manulife.Currently, Tan resides near the Plum Village International Mindfulness Center in France with his companion. He speaks Vietnamese, English, French, and Norwegian.

Client Testimonials

Tan and his co-teacher are very good at feeling what we needed so they can help us to really experience the program. We have a perfect combination of theory about emotional intelligence and a lot of practices and micro-practices that we can take with us in our daily routines and integrate the practices in our company culture to really experience being mindful and getting the sustainable results towards our mission [in renewal energy].

FRANSJE VONCKEN

Learning & Development Specialist – Vandebron

This was my first experience with mindfulness. I learned a lot and I really enjoyed the balance between the practices and the theories. I received a lot of feedback from my employees who participated in the program and they were all pleased with what they learned and how they can practice in their daily life. We also appreciate that after the program we received the exercise each week to continue to practice to really integrate the mindfulness in our day-to-day.

MAXIME DUPARD

Human Resource Manager

I had a good time, really good time with Tan and I’m impressed by all the energy he put in to transmit his experience and always reassured that we were following him while we’re with him by using often the examples, the metaphors, the music, by giving a lot of himself so that we could participate fully. It was extremely pleasant, extremely alive and very joyful too.

VERONIQUE MARIMON

Chief Of Staff – Salesforce

The SIY program was very beneficial for me. It allows me to be not in reactivity, but more in the longer term vision. For me mindfulness is really the key to the success of my business. I found that Tan has a great dynamic with a lot of energy, smiles and gratitude. We feel that he has a lot of experiences but is also very friendly. Everything is done in joy and good humor.

PASCAL YAMMINE

Sales Manager – Salesforce

Tan did it in a very skillful way, very interesting, and also modeled what he is talking about with humility. I really appreciate that. There are so many valuable practices. The gratitude practice I was already very much aware of but you reminded me of it and make it very clear, I really like it. I also really enjoy the journaling practice.

ANJA TRAUB

Head Teacher – Altea International School

Thank you so much for such a well organised and excellently delivered course. The pace and transmission of the teachings was very well measured and beautifully offered in a kind and considerate manner accessible to us all. I am full of admiration for you, due to your deep understanding of Thay’s teachings and your gentle explaining of the key practices Thay promotes. Thank you so much, I will certainly be booking on another course shortly

I wanted to thank you for a wonderful course and the beautiful way you presented it . I do feel calm and happy 😃 now . Thay would be very happy to see how his legacy is being continued through your teaching of this course .

I have been a member of out local Sangha for some time but I had hit a patch where I felt I wasn’t making any ‘progress’ so I joined ‘ Be calm be happy’ to learn how to improve! I realised that as Thay said the teachings are very simple, but not easy & your leading in these sessions has stiffened my resolve to practice more. The water in wave meditation is already being a great resource I will continue to use it.

Tan recently facilitated a PV BCBH online course which I attended. His warmth, kindness and deep reverence for Thay and the Plum Village teachings and practice allowed me to feel safe and well held and to more easily share from the heart. Tan was very generous with his time, offering space after the sessions for questions and the supporting materials shared were generous and so very helpful. If you choose to attend a course facilitated by Tan you will be in a very safe pair of hands …

Tan really does ‘walk his talk’ and is a teacher who genuinely embodies his mindfulness practice, which he transmits through his presence and teaching.[…]. Tan has an excellent knowledge of the teachings and I felt supported by him and the other people on my course: we developed a close supportive sharing space, held by Tan. Doing the course was supportive for me personally and I improved my mental health. I feel more self compassion, more able to nourish happiness and to have loving thoughts and communication. I feel encouraged to look further into mindfulness trainings; establishing daily practice as well as mindfulness ethics.

Tan was patient, understanding, and allowed his experience to flow into the students. He provided a very good balance of teaching, and allowing the students to contribute and understand. I really enjoyed the way in which Tan summarised the previous week(s) of the course before going into that week’s teaching.[…]. I would definitely recommend Tan, and this course. I felt calmer and happier when the time of the weekly sessions came around, it felt like coming home. More widely, it supported my daily practice by giving it context and linking it to a wider movement and giving it meaning. Tan’s teaching is accessible to all. He is helpful, calming, and increases personal peace and understanding.

Although not completely new to Plum Village Practice, I found the course really helpful to establish a firm foundation for my practice in the Plum Village Tradition. Your calm, loving, kind and peaceful approach and presence has really set the tone for the entire duration of the course. Your deep listening has been so very helpful and allowed space for myself and all other participants to feel save to contribute and participate. Also, the guidance and advice you offered was invaluable, as it helped to clarify and simplify practice.
